Email Studio: marketing emails you edit by clicking the email

Email Studio is where you design, plan, and stage marketing emails: welcome series, promos, newsletters, review asks, abandoned-cart reminders, and win-back emails. You start from a layout in your brand colors, the assistant writes it in your Brand Voice, and you change anything by clicking it in the email itself. Nothing here sends to your customers. When an email is ready you export the HTML, send a test to yourself, or save it to your own Klaviyo account as a template.

Where to find it

Sign in and open Explore Kits in the sidebar. Email Studio is under Marketing & content and opens at aikit.ai/tools/email-studio. Every filter and view has its own address (for example ?status=draft or ?view=table), and each email opens at its own address too, so you can bookmark or share them with people on your account.

The home page

  • The top line says what the tool is for, and the line under it is the promise: nothing here sends to your customers. Push to Klaviyo saves a template; Send test goes only to you.
  • New email opens the New email panel. Import a design opens the same panel on its Import tab. Brand & tone opens Brand Voice. Brand kit & settings opens your logo, colors, address, pages, and Klaviyo connection.
  • The dark bar on the right shows Drafts, Approved, In Klaviyo, and Archived. Each number is a filter: press it to see just those emails, and press Show all → in the Showing bar to go back.
  • The Brand & tone panel shows which Brand Voice the assistant writes in and your business name. Get ideas gives five email ideas for this week (kept for the whole week, so it doesn't spend AI again each visit); Use this idea opens one as a draft with its angle ready in the assistant.
  • Search finds emails by name, subject, or goal. Cards, Table, and Templates switch the view. The goal chips (Welcome, Promo, Newsletter, Review ask, Abandoned cart, Win-back, Other), the Kind, Status, and Sort menus, and Show archived narrow the list. On a phone the chips and menus fold under Filters.
  • Cards are grouped by goal and show the real email, its status, goal, name, subject, and when it changed. A goal with no emails shows a Start a … email card. The ⋯ button on a card has Open, Duplicate, Send test to me, and Archive (with Undo). A duplicate is a fresh draft that is never tied to the original's Klaviyo template.
  • Templates lists the templates you saved, grouped by client, with Use this template and Delete (asks first; emails made from it are never touched).
3

Starting a new email

  • Brainstorm: pick a goal, describe the audience, and optionally a product, season, and tone. Give me ideas returns five concepts, each with a subject line; Use this idea opens it as a draft.
  • Start from an idea: say what the email should do, then pick a layout. Your saved templates come first, then the built-in layouts: Welcome, Promo, Newsletter, Review ask, Abandoned cart, Win-back, Product feature, Premium product, Category promo, and Blank. Layouts that feature products let you tick products from Content Kit. Each preview is drawn in your brand colors.
  • Plan a series: give the goal, how many emails (2 to 5), and the cadence. You get an outline with timing, subject, and purpose for each email, and Create all as drafts makes every one in a single click.
  • Import a design: choose a picture of an email (a screenshot, or a Photoshop or Figma export as PNG, JPG, or WebP up to 6 MB). The AI rebuilds it as an editable email. It copies the words as they are; photos in the picture become empty photo spots for you to fill from your library. For a PDF, export the page as a picture first.
  • Built-in layouts never invent facts: prices are left for you, stat and quote sections say Add a real stat until you do, and offer codes are samples. A notice after applying a layout reminds you to check every word, price, and code.

The editor

  • The top bar has All emails (back to the list), the email's name (click to rename), its status, the save state (All changes saved, Saving…, or a warning), Undo and Redo (also Ctrl/Cmd+Z and Shift+Ctrl/Cmd+Z), Save, Send test to me, Approve, Push to Klaviyo, and ⋯.
  • The ⋯ menu has Start from a design, Save as template, Export or copy HTML, Check links, Fix links, Spam & accessibility checks, Brand kit & settings, Notes (for your team, never in the email), Klaviyo template id, Duplicate, and Archive.
  • Changes save on their own a moment after you stop. If the same email is changed in another window first, the save state says so and nothing is overwritten; press Reload to see the latest.
  • Editing an approved or pushed email moves it back to Draft, so you approve it again before using it.
  • The inbox card at the top left shows your business name, the subject line, and the preview text the way an inbox lists them. Type in place; the counters turn red past 55 characters for the subject and 90 for the preview text.
5

Editing by clicking the email

  • Click any section in the preview to select it. A dark bar appears over it with the section's name, Change photo (for sections with a photo), Settings, move up, move down, duplicate, delete (with Undo), and + to add a section right after it.
  • Click any words in the email to type over them. Select some words in a paragraph or heading and a small bar offers Bold, Italic, Link, and Remove link. Pasted text comes in as plain text.
  • Click an empty photo spot to pick a photo. Links inside the preview don't open while you edit; a note shows the address with Open ↗ if you want to visit it.
  • Desktop, Phone, and Dark mode switch the preview. Phone is 390 pixels wide, so you see how columns stack. Dark mode shows how Apple Mail and Outlook draw the email for people who use dark mode.

Sections in this email

The list on the left shows every section in order, starting with Header & top photo and ending with Footer. Click a row to open its settings; the same section is selected in the preview. Collapse all closes them. Add a section (at the bottom of the list, or + on the preview bar) lists every section type with a one-line description.

Section types: Heading, Paragraph, Bullets, Button (two buttons in a row become one band with two buttons), Photo (with optional width, title, link, and button), Photo animation, Video (a cover photo with a play button that opens your video, because most inboxes don't play video), Product, Divider, Banner (brand or dark, with a second accent line and Compact, Normal, or Large text), Product cards (2, 3, or 4 per row, or a simple row, with photo size), Feature band, Link grid (photo tiles that open your pages, 2 or 3 per row), Hero photo (headline and button over a darkened photo), Split section (photo left or right), Proof strip (numbers or a customer quote), Value strip, Spacer, Photo collage (2 side by side, 1 tall + 2, 2 × 2, or 1 wide + 2), Blog posts (from Content Kit), Customer's cart (filled in by Klaviyo for each customer), Offer band (a big code), and Custom HTML.

Header & top photo sets the logo position (centered or left) and an optional full-width photo above everything, with its description and link. Footer turns your footer links on or off; the business name, mailing address, and unsubscribe link come from your brand kit.

Text sections also have Rewrite with AI (rewrites just that section) and Suggest (three versions: punchier, shorter, warmer; Use this swaps one in).

The AI assistant

  • Type or say what should change (the mic stops when you press a button or Escape) and press Apply feedback. Draft from scratch writes the whole email, including subject and preview text, keeping any photos and products you already placed. Subject ideas gives five subject and preview pairs with the angle of each. Screenshot attaches a picture of what you mean.
  • The assistant sorts every request first. A layout request ("two per row", "side by side"), a link request ("the button should go to the pricing page"), a photo swap ("swap the tote card for the beanie"), a new button ("add a button under the photo to the spring collection"), and a headline size request ("the headline is too big") are done directly on those settings, without rewriting any words. Only wording requests go to the writer. If a request isn't one it handles that way, it names the control to use instead.
  • After every change, What the assistant changed lists it in plain words, with Undo and Keep. It never says something changed when nothing did.
  • Guardrails, enforced in code: the assistant never changes or invents a photo (any photo it touches is put back), every link it writes must be one of your pages or a link already in the email (anything else is replaced), and notes meant for you never end up in the email.
  • AI history lists the last 20 assistant changes with your request and what changed, each with Undo. Links in this email lists every link with its section, and Check links shows which ones open.
  • The assistant writes in your Brand Voice (email). It uses AI credits like aiKit's other tools; rule-based changes (layout, links, photos, buttons, sizes) use none.
8

Photos, animations, and cropping

  • Every photo spot opens the photo picker: your Graphics Library (search included), product photos from Content Kit, or an https image link for a picture you have the right to use. Upload new photos in the Graphics Library and they show up right away.
  • Crop & position offers Email banner 600×400, Hero 600×441, Square, Wide, Portrait, and the photo's own shape, with zoom, drag to move, and fill or fit. The crop is saved for this email; the original in your library stays as it is.
  • The animation maker (Photo animation, or the Animation maker card) turns 2 to 5 photos into a looping GIF: reorder, remove, speed (fast, normal, slow), size (600×400, 600×600, 600×338), fill or show the whole photo with a background color, and a description. It is built in your browser and kept under 1.8 MB (fewer colors or a smaller size if needed). The first photo is what Outlook shows, so put your best one first.
  • Pictures in an email you export, test, or push load from aiKit links that work in any inbox. Only the pictures used in that email get such a link; the rest of your library stays private.
9

Checks before it goes anywhere

  • The Checks card updates as you edit and says how many things to fix and tips there are. Show jumps to the section.
  • Spam checks: a missing or ALL-CAPS subject, "!!", "Re:" or "Fwd:" subjects, missing preview text, words filters watch for, link shorteners, and emails that are mostly pictures.
  • Accessibility checks: photos without a description, vague link words like "click here", long ALL-CAPS lines, small text in long paragraphs, buttons without a link, no heading, and colors with too little contrast.
  • The law: marketing email must show a mailing address (CAN-SPAM). Without one in your brand kit, Push to Klaviyo stops and says why.
10

Brand kit & settings

  • Logo: pick it from your Graphics Library and set its width; without one, the business name is shown. Colors: brand color (buttons and bands), accent, text, and background, or one click from a Logo Kit brand kit. A warning shows if button text would be hard to read on your brand color. Heading font: clean sans-serif or classic serif.
  • Who it's from: business name, an optional tagline in the header, your mailing address, and up to five footer links.
  • Your pages: the pages buttons and tiles may open. Your live aiKit websites are added for you. The assistant links only to these or to links already in the email.
  • Klaviyo: paste your own Private API key (Templates: Full access, Accounts: Read). aiKit checks it with Klaviyo, keeps it encrypted, never shows it again, and shows the account it connected to. Disconnect removes it.
11

Templates for clients

  • ⋯ → Save as template keeps the email as it is now, with a name, a client (pick one or type a new one), a description, and a What changes per client checklist built from the email (top photo, headlines, photos, products, offer code).
  • Use this template (home page Templates tab, or Start from a design in the editor) makes a copy and opens Fill in for this client with just those things. Apply changes fills them in.
12

Export, test, and Klaviyo

  • Export or copy HTML shows the finished email with Copy HTML, Copy plain text, and Download .html. Replace {{unsubscribe_url}} with your email tool's unsubscribe tag. The size is shown, with a warning near Gmail's 102 KB clipping point.
  • Send test to me sends the email with [TEST] in front of the subject to your own sign-in address only, through aiKit's normal mail service. No other address can be entered.
  • Push to Klaviyo saves the email as a template in your Klaviyo account (or updates the template it saved before). First it checks every link and stops if any don't open (with Push anyway), and stops if a photo animation isn't built. The Customer's cart and Offer band sections become Klaviyo's own tags, so each customer sees their own cart and code, and the footer gets Klaviyo's unsubscribe link. A template sends nothing by itself: you add it to a flow or campaign in Klaviyo.
  • Approve marks an email ready; the In Klaviyo status and the template id (in ⋯) show what was pushed and when.
13

In the Hub

In aiKit Hub, a to-do or message can link an email (Link → Email). The link shows the email's name and status and opens it in Email Studio. Email links stay internal: clients never see them.

14

Good to know

  • aiKit never sends marketing email to your list. Send test goes only to you, and Klaviyo (or your own email tool) does the sending.
  • Animated GIFs and crops are saved with the email; photos stay in your Graphics Library.
  • The assistant can misjudge wording. It never changes photos or invents links, prices, or codes, but read every word before you use an email.
