Copy & improve: copy a site, review it, apply the changes you pick, compare, then go live

Copy & improve makes a private copy of a site, reviews the copy for concrete improvements, applies the ones you pick, and shows the original and the improved copy side by side. The original is never touched, and nothing goes online until you press Go live. It lives at /home/copy in the new layout (admins only for now), with a Copy & improve button on the Projects page and a "Copy & improve (guided)" button next to Clone this project on a project's own page.

Step 1: Copy

  • Copy a site you own: pick the site, keep or change the name for the copy, and press Copy & improve. Every page and file is copied as it is, with no AI involved, so this step is free and takes seconds.
  • Start from any web address: type the address (with or without https://), optionally name the copy, and press Copy this address. aiKit reads the pages at that address and rebuilds them as a site you can edit, the same way "Import a site" works when you create a project. This takes a few minutes; the page shows the latest progress line and you can leave and come back. Use an address you own or have permission to copy.
  • Either way the copy is an ordinary project in your list, so you can also open it from Projects at any time.

Step 2: Review

  • As soon as the copy is ready, an automatic review starts by itself. It reads the copy's pages (titles, descriptions, headlines, buttons, images and their descriptions, forms, phone and email links, page weight) and a picture of the home page, in one call to a fast, low-cost AI model.
  • It answers with a checklist of 5 to 9 improvements, each tagged with its area: Speed, Phones, Headline & button, Missing pages (contact, booking, quote), Trust, Search listing, or Accessibility. Every line says, in one plain sentence, what it saw and why it matters.
  • Every suggestion starts ticked. Untick what you don't want. Type your own changes in the box below, one per line, in plain words.
  • The review never invents prices, licenses, reviews or awards; where those belong it suggests a clearly marked spot for your real ones.
  • Review again runs a fresh review. The review itself does not use an AI edit; its small model cost is counted in Usage.

Step 3: Apply

  • Apply sends the ticked suggestions and your own lines to the same AI editor that handles chat changes, one change at a time, so each line shows Waiting, Making this change, Done (with a short summary of what changed), or Did not go through (with the reason).
  • Each change that goes through uses one AI edit from the plan. A change that fails, or that changes nothing, is free.
  • Stop after this change finishes the current change and leaves the rest waiting; Continue picks them up later. Run it again retries a change that did not go through.
  • Nothing deploys during Apply: the copy has no public address yet. Up to 12 changes can be in one copy's list at a time.

Step 4: Compare and go live

  • The original and the improved copy appear side by side as pictures of the first screen of the same page. Use the page menu to switch pages and Refresh pictures to take new ones.
  • Open page opens either side as a real page in a new tab. Before Go live, the copy opens as a private preview link that works for two hours; photos in that preview come from the original live site, so a copy started from a web address can show missing photos until it goes live.
  • More changes takes you back to Review to tick more suggestions or write new changes. Open the project goes to the copy's full project page (chat, versions, pins, and the rest).
  • Go live asks you to confirm, then gives the copy its own new address using the normal Go live. The original site is not touched; connect your own domain afterward from the copy's project page.

Coming back later

Every copy has its own link (/home/copy?run=…), and the Copy & improve page lists your recent copies. The step bar at the top shows where the copy is; you can jump between Review, Apply and Compare once the copy is ready.
