Print-ready PDF

A print-ready PDF is a final file set up so a printer can run it as is: exact size, bleed, embedded fonts, high-resolution images and print boxes.

A print-ready PDF is the finished file a printer can send straight to press without fixing anything. It is the exact finished size plus bleed, its images have enough resolution, its fonts are embedded, and its color is set up for print. Many also carry crop marks and PDF print boxes, which tell the printer where the trim and bleed are.

When a file is truly print-ready, jobs move faster and come back looking the way they did on screen. When it is not, the printer has to stop and ask questions, or guess, and guesses show up as white edges, soft photos or swapped fonts.

Say a real estate team called Harborview Homes needs door hangers by Friday. Sending a print-ready PDF the first time means the printer can run the job the same day instead of emailing back about missing bleed.

In aiKit, Printer's Helper builds a print-ready PDF with its print boxes set, plus a proof and a plain list of what changed. Magic Canvas and Pro Designer export print PDFs with bleed and crop marks, and Pro Designer Automate can save a whole batch of files as PDF.
